The assignment as whole

 

This assignment set out to educate young people about how to improve their well-being using an E-learning package and a presentation. Another aim of this assignment was to encourage teachers to use electronic learning by telling them the number of advantages that there are for them and their students.

 

To meet the criteria for this assignment I needed to plan the assignment, create my own assets, produce an E-learning package for 14 to 17 year olds, create a movie to promote electronic learning to teachers, create a presentation for 10 to 11 year olds and acknowledge any assets used, whether they are primary or secondary.

 

Before I started this assignment I planned what I needed to complete in the time that I had. After producing a plan, which was to a sensible time scale and which I believed I could use accurately to complete all the necessary tasks in the time I had. I then started the assignment trying the follow the plan I produce to keep me on track of what needed to be done and when it needed to be completed. There were quite a few times when I was ahead of what needed to be done, so I created a document called “tasks ahead of schedule” to log this and explain why I was ahead of schedule. There were also a few tasks that were not complete on time, because of this I made a record of them in a document named “tasks off schedule” and I scheduled a new data for the tasks to be completed this was successful and I managed to complete the tasks to the new deadlines set. Overall I was able to keep to my action plan and so was successful in my time management organisational skills.  

 

Previous experience that has help me in this assignment is that in the last assignment, I left creating the Eportfolio to the end of the assignment, which did not work well because I came across problems. So in this assignment I created the Eportfolio at the beginning, and I believe that this worked well as it left me with time if I needed to correct any problems. I feel that as a result of this my Eportfolio was a success.

 

Something else that I felt worked particularly well in this assignment was my narration in the movie. I feel that without this the movie would not be completed to the standard that it is. The narration worked well because it helped to explain the movie clip of the quiz, made it more understandable and put it in context.

  

The main problem that I faced whilst working on this assignment was trying to gain permission to use other people’s assets. The majority of people that I E-mailed for permission never replied, the course of this meant that I had to compromise and either had to create my own assets or I had to find others. Another major problem that I faced was not being able to record a movie clip for use in the movie for teachers. This was because the college did not have a video recorder that I could use, as a result of this I do not believe that my movie is to the standard that it would have been had I had access to a video recorder on the date that I had planned to begin making the movie clip. Another problem that I faced while creating the movie was when I tried importing the movie clip that I recorded into Flash. This reduced the quality of the movie so much that you could not make out what the movie clip was about and as a result I had to come up with a different approach, which I managed to do. Something else that posed a problem to me while working on this assignment arose when I was creating the quizzes for the E-learning package, I added a feature that when a question was answered incorrectly a link would appear which would sent the user to the page of the E-learning package where they could find the answer to the question that they had got wrong. I thought I would have to remove this feature because when I uploaded my assignment onto a secure network address, the file directories changed and the links then did not work. I managed to overcome this problem by changing some of the settings.

 

Although the links in the quizzes caused me problems, once I managed to sort those problems out I feel that the links were a valuable part of the quizzes. They made the e-learning package much more professional and if the e-learning package was to be used by teens I feel that this is a feature that would really help them to take in the information. 

 

If I were to do this assignment again I would spend more time editing and creating my own assets, as believe that I could have created more complimentary assets for use with the text and for the target audience.

 

If I had more time to do this assignment I would have examined more E-learning packages, to give me a better insight to how others have been created, structured and to see how they have incorporated assets into their packages.

I had my peers check the work that I produced for this assignment. When asking my peer to evaluate my work, I tried to make it as easy as possible for them by giving them questions to answer, this also worked well for me because it meant that I got feedback on the areas that I needed. I used the feedback I received to help me to complete my Eportfoilo to a higher standard. All the tests users that I asked to give me feedback gave me helpful feedback, which I have recorded in my Eportfoilo. Links to the feedback I received are below.

Evaluation of my E-learning package

 

I believe that the colours that have been used I this e-learning package are not discriminative to either sexes or any age ranges. I believe that the animated gifs that I created to be used as links worked well because they added some movement into the package and made the learning process seem less daunting and more interesting. I also believe that the links that I inserted in my quizzes worked well, although the links in the quizzes caused me problems, once I managed to sort those problems out I feel that the links were a valuable part of the quizzes. They made the e-learning package much more professional and if the e-learning package was to be used by teens I feel that this is a feature that would really help them to take in the information. 

I also feel that giving the user the choice to create there own path of learning will keep their attention as they can change between topics and can skip and topic or sub topic that they already know about. I have inserted images where I felt they were appropriate I did not want to bombard the user with too much text but at the same time I did not want to distract the user’s attention with images.

Movie feedback

Evaluation of my movie

I have tried to use two colours in this movie black for the background and yellow for the text I believe that these colours work well together as the black background intensifies the yellow text and is appropriate of an adult audience.  I believe that my movie has been let down by the quality of the clip, but out of the different ways that I tried to present my movie this was the best quality that I could achieve. I have not inserted any images into the movie, as I did not want to distract the audience attention. The movie clip that has been used in the move, I believe was the best way to demonstrate an E-learning package to the audience I also fell that the sound that I used to accompany the movie clip worked well because if I had not narrated the movie clip I don’t believe that it would have been understood.

Evaluation of my presentation

The colours that I have used in this presentation are aimed at a young audience. I also believe that the background colour works well with the text colour and the slide template that I have used. I add images on most of the slides as an attempt to keep the audiences attention. If I had more time to complete this assignment I would have narrated every as I believe that this would have been more suitable for the target audience.

My progress though this assignment

I did not let working on this assignment interfered with any other lessons or work that was in progress at the same time as this assignment.

I found this assignment relatively easy to understand, but I do not feel that it was easy to complete in the time I was allocated. I believe that I found this assignment easy to understand because I had already done a number of website design courses prior to the DiDA course. I also think that having completed the GNVQ ICT foundation course last year I had a good understanding of how assignments need to be presented and the information that needs to go in to them.
