A Balanced Diet A balanced diet must contain all the different food groups: carbohydrates, proteins, fats, fibres, vitamins and minerals. But these need to be consumed in the correct proportions. You may have heard about your recommended daily allowance (RDA) of some of the different food groups, vitamins and minerals and you should take this into account for a balanced diet. Try and increase your daily intake of fruits and vegetables, aim for five a day. Eat meats, eggs, nuts, beans and pulses to get protein. Choose whole grain breads and cereals for fibre, try to avoid deep fried foods instead boil, grill or steam your foods
