I had to respond to a letter which was published in the local newspaper. I am sure that the writer had not done any research into the subject and was expressing a personal opinion. I wanted to make it clear in my letter that I have done some research and do know something about the subject.

I decided to use some information from my survey in support of my main argument that there would be less violence if teenagers had more to do.

I tried to keep the letter short so that it wouldn't take up too much space on the page if it was printed.

I think the editor might be like to publish a response from a teenager, so I put 'Responsible teenager, age 15' under my name at the bottom of the letter to make it obvious who I am.

I showed my letter to my mother and my English teacher. They both thought it might be good enough to be printed. I am very pleased with it. I think it gives the impression that I know more about the subject than the writer of the first letter and have a more sensible point of view.
